Documentation for the concept of a filter

Filters allow you to select which entries are shown, based on their parts, their ancestors and children, or their location.

A filter is a string of one of the following forms:

tag:<tag>
state:<state>
file:<file>
level:<level>
header:<header>
property:<property-name>
property:<property-name>:<property-value>
property:<property-name>:time:<comparison>:<time>

Examples

  • Select entries that have the 'online' tag:

    tag:online
  • Select entries whose state is 'TODO':

    state:TODO
  • Select entries in a file whose filepath contains 'my-client.smos' as a substring:

    file:my-client.smos
  • Select entries on the fifth level in their file, down from the root:

    level:5
  • Select entries that contain the substring 'find' in their header:

    header:find
  • Select entries that have an 'effort' property:

    property:effort
  • Select entries that have an 'effort' property that contains 'high' as a substring:

    property:property:high'
  • Select entries that have a 'timewindow' property that, when interpreted as an amount of time, is less than two hours:

    property:timewindow:time:lt:2h
  • Select entries whose parent have a 'work' tag:

    parent:tag:work
  • Select entries that have an ancestor whose state is 'DONE':

    ancestor:state:DONE
  • Select entries that have a child that has a 'work' tag:

    child:tag:work
  • Select entries that whose legacy contains a child whose state is 'DONE':

    legacy:state:DONE
  • Select entries that do _not_ have a 'work' tag:

    not:tag:work
  • Select entries that have a 'work' tag _and_ also have the state 'NEXT':

    (tag:work and state:NEXT)
  • Select entries that are a root in their file _or_ have the state 'DONE':
